ABOUT THE DATATHON

Blueprint Datathon is a competition at Stanford, hosted by Stanford Health Innovations for Future Technologies (SHIFT). We bring together students from diverse backgrounds to apply big data analytics to challenges in healthcare.

We encourage undergraduate and graduate students with interests in Healthcare, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or Business to participate. Participants will be provided with a few cases and corresponding data sets covering a health/biotech problem studied by industry and academia to discover meaningful insights.

We expect participants to use statistical analysis techniques and tools to explore the data provided, and use the insights to make recommendations and qualitative models for adoption by appropriate stakeholders.

WHY?

This competition is meant to cultivate the tangible excitement centered around big data on campus, and expose students to the growing use of data analytics in healthcare decision-making and products. Further than simply exposing the use of data analytics in health to students, we want participants to immerse themselves and gain experience in actually working with complex and relevant datasets, and step in the shoes of current health tech/biotech companies.

Participants will gain valuable experience in using powerful tools such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other proven statistical techniques to make sense of the data. The fresh eyes and eagerness of participants will also provide stakeholders with meaningful insights they may have not seen before!

We want students to apply technical skills in an interdisciplinary fashion to solve data-heavy health challenges. By increasing students’ exposure to the health space, we hope to not only develop awareness for this field at Stanford but also make a direct impact on health.
